First assigned as a parish priest in New Jersey, he was soon assigned to serve in the Camden Diocese's missions in the Jatai Diocese of Brazil. In January 1978 he was appointed Vicar General of that diocese. Two months later, on March 15, 1978, he was named Auxiliary to Bishop Coscia and Titular Bishop of Blanda by Pope Paul VI. He was only briefly the Bishop of Jatai. He was installed as the Jutai Bishop at the beginning of May 1999 and died only weeks later on May 18, 1999 suffering a heart attack while present as his official residence was being robbed. At the time of his death he was also the apostolic administrator of the Diocese of Itumbiara in Goias, Brazil.
