Julie Jo Fleming
Julie Jo Fleming, 45, of Caldwell, passed away Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was at her home, with her family by her side, until the end. A memorial service will be held at the Caldwell High School auditorium at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23. Graveside services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens following the memorial. Services are under the direction of Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell.
Julie was born to Howard and Francis Johnson in Caldwell on Aug. 30, 1959. She was raised in Caldwell and graduated with honors from Caldwell High School in 1977. Julie was one of the rare few who had always known what she wanted to do in life; help and teach children. In pursuit of that dream she attended Idaho State University in Pocatello Idaho where she received a bachelor of science degree in speech pathology ('81) and later a master's degree in special education ('83). While attending ISU, Julie was a proud member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority, as well as numerous other service organizations. Returning to the Treasure Valley, Julie began her life's work with disadvantaged and handicapped children. She spent two years working for the Marsing School District's COSSA program before moving back to the Caldwell school district where she spent the next 18 years helping
those that needed it the most.
Shortly after beginning her career, Julie met her best friend and
husband Dale Fleming. They were married on Sept. 7, 1985, and were inseparable until the end. Julie and Dale were later blessed with two beautiful children, Tyler, age 13, and Shelby age 9. Julie was sustained throughout her long illness by the love and support of her children and husband. Julie's life was infinitely enriched by her family's love and Julie returned that love in ways too numerous to count.
Julie's work with disadvantaged children impacted her community
profoundly. She brought the hope that education represents to those children and families most in need of hope. Julie's love and patience enriched and improved the lives of the children she worked with in every instance. Julie's life ended as she had spent it; as a nurturer of children, a provider of hope and education, and a loving wife and mother. A teacher.
Julie is survived by her parents, Howard and Francis Johnson; her
husband, Dale and her children Tyler and Shelby; her sisters, Cheryl
Knox and Susan Gipson and big brother Bruce Stanger.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Bruce Johnson. Memorial contributions can be made in Julie's name to the Caldwell Education Foundation.
