Mary Rae Eastman Brown

Mary Rae Brown, 69, died November 29, following a heart attack. She was doing what she enjoyed most, shopping for her grandchildren with her best friend Rae.

She was active in the LDS Church, having been in nearly every auxiliary leadership position in a ward and district in her many years of service. She was the "Mission Mother" for some 400 missionaries in the Thailand Bangkok Mission from 1976 to 1979. She was a wonderful wife who followed Harvey Dean to live in Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, India, Turkey, and Afghanistan. And, after his retirement, to 20 other countries where he was a consultant.

Mary Rae was always a choice friend and a care giver. She always thought of others before herself and was generous and loving with all. She was an outstanding cook, a wonderful homemaker and a talented interior decorator. Her family is confident that she has already rearranged the furniture and pictures in her new Heavenly Home and is planning a new color scheme for the walls. In a 12-month period, she once decorated homes in Turkey, Afghanistan and Thailand.

She was born September 5, 1928, in Tooele, Utah, to Frank and Elsie Eastman. She was married to Harvey Dean Brown on November 27, 1946, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

She is survived by her loving husband, a daughter, Radene (Harvey) Johnson, Bountiful, UT., and a son, Clark (Cathy) Brown, Anchorage, AK. She will be greatly missed by six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, as well as numerous other children who considered her their "Grandma", her sister, Catherine McNeil, Tooele, UT., and brother, Dan (Ruby) Eastman of Salt Lake City and sister-in-law, Bessie Eastman, Provo.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Frank Eastman.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 3, 1997 at 11 a.m. in the Mueller Park 10th Ward Chapel, 1800 East Mueller Park Road, Bountiful. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the 10th Ward Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Operation Smile or the Utah Food Bank.
