Matilda R. "Tillie" Haverkamp, 88, of Seneca, died Thursday, June 6, 1996, at Country View Estates Care Home in Seneca, where she had been a resident since May 1, 1994. Her death was due to an apparent heart attack.

She was born April 23, 1908, on a farm south of Seneca, the daughter of Ferdinand and Regina Sudbeck Holthaus. She grew up there and attended Sts. Peter and Paul School in Seneca. She helped on the family farm.

On April 25, 1928, she married Lawrence A. Haverkamp at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Seneca. They lived and farmed north of Kelly. Her husband, Lawrence, died June 26, 1979. She remained on the farm until 1982 when she moved to Seneca.

She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church, and the St. Ann's Altar Society at the church. She was a former member of St. Bede's Church at Kelly. She enjoyed ceramics, embroidery and had a large garden and flowers around her home. She had been in good health in mind and spirit until her death.

Survivors are three sons, Cletus Haverkamp, Seneca; David "Larry" Haverkamp, Berryton, KS; Lynn Haverkamp, Silver Lake, KS; daughters, Armella Freeman, Rock Springs, WY; Rosalyn Hermesch, Seneca; Connie Koelzer, Basin City, WA; brothers, Paul Holthaus, Seneca; Henry Holthaus, Seneca; Francis "Fritz" Holthaus, Seneca; sisters, Lucia Roth, Seneca; Rita Becker, Gladstone, MO; 26 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers, Albert Holthaus; Joseph Holthaus; Barney Holthaus; and sister, Rita Holthaus.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Seneca, KS. Burial was in St. Bede's Cemetery, Kelly, KS.
