Eli S. Grubb died at his residence, on Sixth street, about 2 o'clock last Thursday afternoon, having been ill several months, with dropsy. He was born in Perry Valley August 12, 1842, and was married to Miss Elizabeth Acker Lauver, August 24, 1862. Thirteen children were born to them, all but two of whom, with their mother, survive, as follows: Frederick S., John D., William H., George B., and Harvey M., all of Tiskilway, Ill.; Mary Catharine, wife of Grant Clay, of this place; Anna Elizabeth, wife of W. C. Kroh, of Harrisburg; Lydia Jane, wife of John Reeder, of Mannsville; Susan Fanny, wife of Foster D. Sheaffer, of Middle Ridge; Miss Rebecca and Amos M., at home. He is also survived by one brother, David Grubb, of Kansas, and three sisters, Mrs. Annie Jones, of Pfoutz's Valley; Mrs. Martin Comp, of Duncannon, and Mrs. John H. Gable, of Raccoon Valley. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Grubb moved to Baskinville, near Duncannon, and subsequently moved to Juniata township, where he was for years a well-known farmer, enjoying the respect of his neighbors and his fellow citizens generally. Two years ago he took up his residence in East Newport and removed from there to Sixth street last spring. He enlisted in Co. C, 103d regiment, March 20, 1865, and was honorably discharged June 25, of the same year. Funeral services were conducted at his late residence, at 10 o'clock Sunday morning, by Rev. William Graybill, a Mennonite minister, of Fayette township, Juniata county. The body was interred in the cemetery. The pallbearers were Post comrades--J. L. Miller, J. M. Barrick, Samuel Noll and Jacob Markel.
