James R. Rogers was involved in the Battle of Atlanta and was put on a train to Macon, GA. He was dead by the time the train arrived in Macon.

Inscription

I don't believe the information about his death is accurate. According to Mary A Rogers' Widow's Pension application, "he took sick on the 10th of Aug.... while in the ditches around Atlanta. He was taken to the hospital and in a few days, he was sent home on sick furlough and died at home in East Macon 21 Aug. 1864. "I was with him at the time of his death"
