Actor. Brother of actors Matt Moore and Tom Moore. Born in Fordstown Crossroads, County Meath, Ireland, he arrived in the United States with his family at age 11. After some experience as a singer in vaudeville he entered films in 1908 as a member of D.W. Griffith's stock company at the Biograph studio. There he fell in love with actress Mary Pickford, who was on the threshold of a career as one of Hollywood's first superstars. They married secretly in 1911 and he became Pickford's regular onscreen leading man, playing Prince Charming in "Cinderella" (1914), among other roles. But Moore resented living in the shadow of his wife's fame and took to drinking and womanizing. Pickford divorced him in 1920 to marry Douglas Fairbanks. On his own Moore never found major stardom but was steadily employed in over 250 silent and sound films, sometimes in villainous roles. In "She Done Him Wrong" (1933) he was the recipient of Mae West's immortal line, "Is that a gun in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?" His other credits include "Pippa Passes" (1909), "The Battle of the Sexes" (1914), "The Kiss" (1917), "The Black Bird" (1926), "Side Street" (1929), and "A Star is Born" (1937). He died of a heart attack at 52. From 1921 until his death Moore was married to actress Katherine Perry.
