CHANDLER

Stephen Edward Chandler, age 59 years, 2 months and 9 days, left this world on Thursday, October 11, 2007 to join his Father and Saviour. He died in the BMTU at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Steve was born on the 2nd of August, 1948, in Oklahoma City, the son of Margie M Berry and Clinton T Chandler Sr. He lived in Oklahoma all his life. On March 8, 1969, Steve and Linda Simmons married in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Their son Barry was born in January of 1974.

He attended and served in churches in Midwest City, Ada, and Oklahoma City. He had been a youth choir sponsor, youth group sponsor, choir member, and deacon.

Steve was an avid Boy Scout, re-joining when Barry was a child. He continued as a member of Troop 20 for the rest of his life and was glad to see his grandsons become Cub Scouts.

He served as a District Commissioner and in many council training programs, was a member of the Campmaster Corps and of Manu Lodge 133, Order of the Arrow, was an Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 20, and received his Wood Badge beads, Fox patrol, in 1990.

Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Margie Chandler, by his father Clint Chandler, by his sister Judy Stevens, sister-in-law Dianna Chandler and by his beloved Auntie and Uncle Lafe Eggleston.

He is survived by his wife, Linda, son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Christy Chandler, of Oklahoma City, and five grandchildren - Matthew, Andrew, Elisabeth, Hannah and Rebekah.

He is also survived by his brother, C T Chandler Jr, of Oklahoma City; aunt and uncle Mary and John Fields of Washington, Oklahoma; half-sister Mary Lou Cornelius of Oklahoma City and brother-in-law, Wes Stevens. . . . He leaves behind many dear friends.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, October 21, 2007, at Draper Park Christian Church, 8500 S Walker, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

If you so wish, Memorial contributions may be made to BSA Troop 20 . . . .

Memorial Service / 4:00 p.m. / Sunday, October 21, 2007 / Draper Park Christian Church / Oklahoma City, Oklahoma / (song) Our God is an Awesome God

Dear ones, We don't believe we could stand in front of you today and tell you what is in our hearts, so are choosing to write this letter to you.

If you are attending this service, you will see three things in this room that tell of the life of Steve Chandler. One is the cross at the front of the sanctuary. The other two are his Scout uniform and an award received many years ago.

Steve grew up in the church and accepted Jesus in his youth. He honored God all his life and, through his service in the church and other opportunities in life, his example told of his love for Jesus.

Steve believed in the Boy Scout movement. There were three things that he particularly liked about it - that it honored God; that it built friendships; that it taught character. It was important to Steve that Scouting continues to honor God through difficult times and against many challenges to that duty.

The friendships that Steve built through Scouting were precious to him and carried him through some difficult moments in his life. The boys who came and went were part of his heart and he kept in touch with many of them after they left the troop.

The award Steve received is the Extra Miler award from the Last Frontier Council. That says the rest of what there is to say about Steve. He always went the extra mile for you - he never liked to turn down any request for his help or his time. What ever was asked of him, he did with enthusiasm. He was a man of good character.

And finally - you'll notice that Steve's uniform has a sash with a single merit badge - an example of what Scouting friendship and fellowship is all about. In November of last year Steve was thrilled to be the only Scout in the more-than-40-year history of Troop 20 to actually receive his Napping Merit Badge (everyone else is still trying). He was eagerly awaiting the next Count of Honor and anticipating with great glee the fun he would have showing up with it on his chest.

Love to you all - Linda and Barry
