Charles "Scoop" Allen, trumpeter, was a longtime member of Memphis R and B band the Bar-Kays. He died at his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the age of 62. He was born in Detroit and came to Memphis in the 1960s to live with his grandparents. He attended Memphis State University on a music scholarship. In 1972 he joined the Bar-Kays and toured with them for over a decade. He also recorded on hit albums lack Rock, Light of Life, and As One, before leaving the band in 1983. For the last 15 years of his life he was a counselor at a halfway house in Albuquerque, NM. His funeral was held at Holy City Church of God in Christ in Memphis, TN. He was survived by one son, Rigel, and his fiancee Carmen LaCour
