Sarah Permelia "Melia" Gentry Howard was born in Magoffin County, Kentucky in 1866. She was the daughter of John Gentry and Elizabeth Howard. She married James Clay Howard, the son of James and Centhia Howard, on November 14, 1883. They had four children. Myrtle,(Lee Pratt) Derias, 1884-1919(Laura Jane Howard, 1888-1918 Perlina, 1887-1963 and Newton P 1890-1960.James Clay died in 1900 and Melia married Joseph Newton Howard,1866-1908. Melia had two more children, Ollie,1903---and Oscar, 1905-1990. It is believed these children were not the sons of Joseph.

Melia died in Pike County, Ohio, while living with her daughter Myrtle and son-in-law Lee. She was buried in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Sarah was my step-grandmother.
