Joe, as he was familiarly known to everyone, was born in Oregon county, and both his parents died while he was very young, and he was reared and made his home with Dr. Stevenson, near the Rock Ford, on Big Piney, having spent most of his life in Pulaski County.
He was converted and united with the Hopewell Baptist church at Big Piney about 40 years ago, but for the past few years had been a member of the Waynesville Baptist church.
He was of a kindly disposition that made friends for him wherever he went. He will be sadly missed here, where he always had a cheery greeting for everyone.
For several years he made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Manes and Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Judkins, but for the past 3 years had occupied the tract near town owned by Dr. C. A. Talbot, where he acted as caretaker.
*He is the son of Owen & Elizabeth Piolet Bales. His brother, Ephraim Bales, is memorial no. 12879429.
