HARRISBURG -- Donald Eugene Arnold, 73, of Harrisburg died Wednesday, Dec. 17, at his residence.
Born in Rector, he served in the Army in Korea and in 1953 he was signed by the New York Yankees, playing in the minor leagues until an injury ended his baseball career. He was a former car salesman and owner of Arnold Laser Service.
A 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner, he was a member of a Veteran of Foreign Wars post, the American Legion, Poinsett Masonic Lodge and the First Baptist Church in Harrisburg, where he was a former Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include his wife, Essie Crawford Arnold of the home; a son, Landis Tyler "Tye" Arnold of Orlando, Fla.; three daughters, Donnita Marie Hosman of Jonesboro and Fonda Jo Eaton and Lana Leanne Parks, both of Harrisburg; two sisters, Lorene Boone of Paragould and Melba Jean Lutz of Flint, Mich.; two half brothers, Chesley Arnold and Clifton Gale Arnold, both of Flint; eight grandchildren, Suzette Hosman Pickle, Micah Leanne Parks, Natalie Jo Eaton, Mallory Breanne Long, Daniel Vernon Hosman, Donald Clark Hosman, Brody Eaton and Mitchell Eaton; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chesley Charles Arnold and Sophia Lee Crosno Arnold, and one brother.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Jackson's Harrisburg Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jerry Kausler officiating. Burial will follow in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Nolan Norris, Sidney "Happy" Parker, Don Spiegel, Mervin Bolin, Derrick Spiegel and L.D. Deckleman.
Honorary pallbearers will include Carl Neugebauer, Dutch Noe, Leon Eastin, Gene Harrison, Don Morgan, Edsel Terrell, Billy Joe Wright, Roy Barnett, Gene White, Don Milam, Buck Stacey, L.A. Graves, Lester Hooker, James Williams, Jim Tom Butler, Sam Edwards and Don Denton.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
