Betty Jean Reed (nee Ball), age 77, of Highland, IN, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Monday, November 5, 2007 while at the Community Hospital in Munster. Born February 22, 1930 in McQuady, KY, Betty was the daughter of the late Joseph Ollie and Cova (nee Mattingly) Ball. Betty and her love, Billy C. Reed, were wed November 27, 1957. together they resided in Dolton, IL and operated their own business, Bressler's 33 Flavors, where Betty was an award- winning ice cream cake decorator. In the past, she was also the top saleswoman in the better dresses department at Rothchild's Department Store of Hammond. Family meant everything to Betty. She never forgot a single birthday, Christmas or graduation card. Never knowing an enemy nor speaking an ill word against anyone, Betty was a friend to all whose forte was people. She will be remembered as a warm, caring, elegant woman who always dressed to the "T". Her presence will be deeply missed by the many who knew and loved her. Surviving to mourn Betty's passing is her dear husband, Billy C. Reed, with whom she would have shared 50 happy years of marriage on November 27th; her devoted children: Linda (Glen) Hegyi of Dyer, IN, Brenda (Frank) Kurgan of Crown Point, IN and Cynthia Kieft (Ron Berry) of Tucson, AZ; seven beloved grandchildren: Tina Sincan, Eric Sias, Larry Birkenfeld, Steven Hurst, and Carson, Kelly and Alexis Kieft; loving brother and sisters: Carl (Paula) Ball of KY, Alma (Bill) Metzen of Highland, IN and Sue Marshall of KY; as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Waiting to greet Betty in Heaven are her parents and five brothers and sisters. The family invites relatives and friends to visit in the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 S. Cline Ave. (1/2 mile south of US 30), Schererville, IN on Thursday, November 8, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 noon, celebrated by Father Keith Virus of St. James Parish. At rest Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN. Memorial gifts in Betty's name may be made to the charity of one's choice.
