Douglas A. Lawson, 60, of Ruckersville, passed away on Friday, March 23, 2012, at Hospice House, surrounded by his family. Doug was born on August 11, 1951, in Charlottesville, Virginia, the son of the late Hiram J. Lawson Jr. and Givy Eppard Lawson. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Rose Lawson; one daughter, Michelle Renee Lawson of Sterling; three brothers, Gilmer Lawson and his wife, Faye, of Stanardsville, Charles Lawson and his wife, Carolyn, and Randall Lawson and his wife, Ann, all of Stanardsville; his father and mother-in-law, William and Edith Shifflett of Ruckersville; two special brothers-in-law, who were like brothers to Doug, Ricky Shifflett and his wife, Lynda, of Ruckersville, and Allen Shifflett and his wife, Samantha, of Stanardsville; a sister-in-law, who was like a sister to Doug, Juanita Lowe and her husband, Paul, of Palmyra; a very special niece who was like a daughter, Sharon Lawson Taylor and her husband, Daniel, and their children, Evan and Delana, of Stanardsville; six special nieces and nephews, Brittany and Andy Lowe, Will, Parker, Colby and Spencer Shifflett; and many other family members and friends. In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his brother and best friend, Garland Lawson. Doug was employed at State Farm
Insurance for 39 years. Doug was a kind and gentle person, who was a loving husband, father, brother, and uncle. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, March 25, 2012, at First Bible Baptist Church, 235 Crusaders Court, Stanardsville, Virginia. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2012, at First Bible Baptist Church with the Reverend Jim Woods officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.
