Robert Lewis Thomas, 84, of Princeton, West Virginia died January 28, 1998. Born Febraury 2, 1914, he was the son of the late Lewis and Dora Pruitt Thomas. He was a lifelong resident of Mercer County. He was a retired mechanic on the car yard Princeton shops for th Norfolk and Western Rail road with more than 40 years of service. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance Ways. He was the oldest member of the Roger Street Community Church in Princeton, and was one of the founders. He has served on the board of trustees for more than 40 years.
He was preceeded in death by his wife, Ida Belle Hammonds Thomsa of 64 years;a son Ray Daniel Thomas; four brothers, Clarence, Fred, John and Frank THomas; three sisters,Florence, Virgie and Fannie.
Survivors--three sons,Preston THomas, Robert Lee Thomas and Giles "Junior" Hammonds, all of Princeton; three daughters, Georgia Barnette, Betty Ann Griffey and Irene THomas(now deceased)0f Richlands; one sister, Stella Morris of Princeton; one brother Carl Thomas of Princeton;several grand and great children.
Graveside services were held February 2,1998 at the Roselawn Memorial Gardens on the Courthouse Road in Princeton. THis was my husband's grandfather and my son's great grandfather. He is deeply missed.
