He married Laura Butts on November 21, 1914 in Fessenden, ND. He served in the army during WW I.

Surviving are three sons, LeRoy (Butts) of Scobey, Howard of Four Buttes and Elvin of Dickinson, ND; two daughters, Mrs. Helen Green of Twin Falls, ID and Mrs. Alene Frestad of Scobey; a half sister, Mrs. William Lorz of Harvey, ND and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
