Asa was the fourth child of Nehemiah and Sarah (Goodwin) Andrews. He spent his entire life in New Hartford and worked as a farmer. He built his home about 1824 at the south end of Shepherd's Pond (known as Wonksunkmunk to the Indians) at the current intersection of West Hill Road and Niles Road. Asa died at a relatively young age of 38. The house that Asa built subsequently was owned by Richard Hopkins, then William B. Hopkins and in 1874 was sold to Henry J. Tucker.
Asa married Temperance Colt Pelton on 16 Dec 1813. His brother Isaac married Martha Pelton, sister to Temperance. Asa and Temperance had eight children including a child that died at less than two years of age.
