Major League Baseball Player. For seven seasons (1962 to 1968), he was a left-handed pitcher with the Philadelphia Phillies, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets and California Angels. He was raised in Northern California where he attended Yreka High School and played multiple sports, lettering in baseball, track, basketball and football. He pitched on the collegiate level at Shasta Junior College (California) and was signed by the Phillies as an amateur free agent in 1958. He marked his Major League debut on May 12th, 1962 and recorded 9 wins in 31 games with Philadelphia as he secured a starting spot within their rotation. In 1964, he yielded a career-high 12 victories in 208 innings pitched and was a part of the Phillies' staff which included Jim Bunning and Chris Short. Philadelphia nearly won the National League Pennant that year, but let a substantial lead in the standings slip away. In 182 games, he compiled a 43 win 47 loss record with a 3.69 lifetime ERA in 863 innings pitched. Following his baseball career, Bennett went into the restaurant business and was the proprietor of his own establishment. His younger brother David Bennett briefly was a Major League pitcher.
