CAUDILL, Ira D.—Passed away Jan. 11 in Spokane. His home was at S234 Greene.

Survived by his wife, Mary Jane, at the home; 2 sons, David and James Lester, both of Spokane; 4 daughters, Mrs. Ina Emery, Mrs. Chelcey Hartz and Mrs. Delphia Morrison, all of Spokane; Mrs. Pearle Shore of Milton, Wash.; father, R.D. Caudill of Spokane; 3 grandsons.

He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Funeral Friday, January 14 at 1 p.m. from the Chapel of Memories from the Thornhill-Carey Funeral Home, N1322 Monroe St., Rev. Glenn G. McCorckle officiating. Vault interment Marshall, Wash., Cemetery.

Ira Caudill Is First Traffic Victim of 1949


Ira Caudill, 69, S234 Greene, was killed instantly yesterday morning when struck by an automobile at Sprague and Greene.

It was the first traffic fatality of the year and ended a 71-day period in the city without a death due to traffic accidents. "Deathless days" in Spokane County had mounted to 53 consecutive days.

The victim was in the pedestrian lane waiting for traffic to clear when he was struck, Traffic Investigation Officer Warren Loomis reported. He was carried 50 feet by the car, Officer Loomis said.

Survivors of Mr. Caudill include two sons, David, Spokane, and Lester, Valleyford; and four daughters, Mrs. Ina Emery, Mrs. A.T. Hartz and Mrs. E.H. Morrison, all of Spokane, and Mrs. D.T. Shore, Tacoma.

Thornhill-Carey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
