CHARLESTON - Curtis Biggs, age 78 of rural Charleston and formerly of Crete, Illinois passed away on Friday (December 4, 2009) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

Services celebrating and honoring his life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday (December 8) at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive in Charleston with Pastor David Bessinger officiating. Entombment will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday (December 9) at the Skyline Memorial Park, rural Monee, Illinois.

Curtis' family requests that memorial gifts in his honor be made to the Coles County Animal Shelter. Gifts may be left on the Memorial Table at the Visitation or Services or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.

Curtis was born in Benton, Illinois on May 4, 1931, a son of Leo and Stella (Joslin) Biggs. He married Darlene Ruth Stolzenbach in Chicago Heights, Illinois on October 2, 1954, and lovingly shared nearly forty-five years of marriage and friendship prior to her death on July 3, 1999.

Curtis is survived by his children, Brenda Garriott and her husband Curtis, Susan Biggs and Dennis Biggs, all of Charleston; two granddaughters, Lauren Garriott and Emily Garriott, both of Charleston; four sisters; Katherine, Paula, Flo and Ruth Ann, and; a special friend, Carolyn Wilson of Arcola, Illinois.

In addition to Darlene and his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Colleen Biggs; one son; Leon C. Biggs, and; two brothers, Charles Biggs and Kenneth Biggs.

Curtis was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Dorans and prior to moving to the Charleston area, he was a long-time and faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Beecher. A Life Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul McVey Post 1592, Curtis served his country with pride through two branches of the armed forces - the first as a young man with the United States Army and later during the Korean Conflict with the United States Air Force. For many years he served as a deputy of F/MEN of Will County, an auxiliary police unit where he held several positions including President. Curtis retired in 1994 from Portion Packing in Chicago Heights, Illinois.

Remembering Curtis will come easy: to his family he was a loving, caring and supportive husband, father and grandfather - his grandkids were the "love of his life;" to his many friends and professional associates he was loyal, kind and always willing to lend a helping hand; to all animals, especially his dogs Smokie & Sam, he was their best friend, and; to his country he was a patriot.
