Tom was born July 28, 1916 in Georgetown and lived in Georgetown most of his 86 years. His parents were Edgar Purl and Toni Wurzlow. He attended Georgetown public schools Southwestern University. In 1939 he received a degree in business administration from Southwestern University.
He taught and coached one year before being called into the U.S. Army. He was discharged in 1945. He married Aleene Clark in 1945 and was the father of two sons.
Tom is survived by his wife of 57 years, Aleene (Clark) Purl; two sons, Jack and wife Patricia of Lindale and Bob Purl of Brenham; three grandchildren, Steven Purl of Mesquite, Todd Purl and wife Molly of Forney and Beth Ann Purl of Lindale; one nephew, Andrew Purl of Los Angeles, California; and one niece, Martha Santanoff of North Palme Beach, Florida.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert H. Purl and Fred W. Paul.
There will be a family burial in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery followed by a memorial service at the First Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, April 23, 2003. Officiating the service will be Dr. Michael Roberts, Reverend Jack Ware and Reverend Larry Sunkel.
Visitation was at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel on Tuesday evening, April 22, 2003 from 6 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorials will be appreciated by the First Presbyterian Church, 703 Church Street, Georgetown, 78626 or to the charity of your choice.
