Lawrence was born to Thomas & Angele Marie (Parent) Parnell just a few years after their move from Drummondville, Quebec, to Somerset. In younger years he farmed, and spent the winters at the lumber camps. He married Elizabeth Belisle July 6, 1880 and they raised 9 boys & 4 girls. In later years he was involved with the school board, village & county boards, St Anne trustee, and Chairman of the board at Somerset bank.
