U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Indiana University College of Liberal Arts in 1909, from the law department of Indiana University in 1912, was admitted to the bar in 1913 and commenced to practice law in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was chairman of the Allen County Republican Committee (1922-24), elected as a Republican to the Sixty-ninth Congress and to the next three succeeding Congresses, serving (1925-33). An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he organized a mutual life insurance company in 1939, was president of Goodwill Industries of Fort Wayne (1940-43) and co-publisher of an interdenominational newspaper (1941-46). He also practiced law until his death.
