Felix G."Chonte" Barreras Jr., age 66, a former resident of Socorro and a current resident of Los Chávez for the past two years, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2002 at the VA Hospital in Albuquerque.
Felix was a member of the San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas, a member of St. Joseph's Carpenters Organization in Socorro and a Eucharist Minister of San Miguel Catholic Church.
Felix retired from the United States Army after 26 years of dedicated service. Preceding him in death were his son and daughter (twins), Anthony and Antionette in 1980, his mother, Damacia Barreras in 1978, his father, Felix Barreras Sr. in 1989 and his brother, Willie Barreras in 2001.
Felix is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Mary Grace of the family home, his three children, Felix M. Barreras III and his wife, Tamara of San Antonio, TX, Michael V. Barreras and his wife, Gilda of Albuquerque and Linda M. Christensen and her husband, Gary John of Los Chávez and his eight grandchildren, his brothers and sisters, Beatrice Birner, Benigno Barreras, Mary Jane Chávez, all of Socorro, Emma Silva, Stella Craig and Andrea Barreras (sister-in-law) all of Albuquerque, his step-mother, Maria D. Barreras, Felix D. Barreras, Rosemary Feldman, Paula Barreras, David Barreras, Jimmy Barreras and Gloria B. Armenta, all of California. Felix is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A vigil with rosary will be at San Clemente Catholic Church on Tuesday, September 24, 2002 at 7:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at the San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas and will be followed with interment at the San Clemente Catholic Cemetery.
