Eldoras B. Jenkins passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday evening, March 22nd at the age of 84. Eldoras was born on July 12, 1927, in Hopkins County, Texas, to parents Lillie Eula and Charlie Erbin Jenkins. He married Doris Jean Crews on June 5, 1949. Mr. Jenkins was a lifelong educator, teaching in Slaton and Brownsboro, at East Texas Baptist University, and for Longview ISD. Throughout his career he taught accounting, bookkeeping, shorthand, typing, and Vocational Office Education. He received his bachelor's degree from East Texas State Teacher's College in Commerce and his master's from the University of Texas at Austin. His college career was interrupted by his service in the United States Navy. He served in the first integrated unit in the South Pacific at the close of World War II.

Mr. Jenkins was a charter member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church. He served as a Deacon for decades and was honored to be named Deacon Emeritus in recent years. Mr. Jenkins was a willing servant whether he was completing his duties as Sunday School secretary, going with the youth to Falls Creek, or contributing to the writing of church history. As well as serving as state president of the Texas Business Educators Association, he was active in the Civitan Club, the Gregg County Historical Museum, and the Retired Teachers Association.

Mr. Jenkins was an avid ladies' basketball fan and followed the Lady Lobos for many years. In his retirement he enjoyed working crossword puzzles and was a voracious reader. He always looked forward to his annual visit to Hot Springs, Arkansas, with his family.

Mr. Jenkins was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years; his parents; one sister, Velda Price; and his son-in-law, Mickey Melton. He is survived by his daughters, Jeanna Jenkins of Garland and Rebecca Melton of Longview; and his three granddaughters and two grandsons-in-law, Ann Crews Melton and Ryan Warner of Astoria, New York; Emily and Jess Harris of Frisco; and Elizabeth Melton of Bryan. He was blessed to have two beautiful great-granddaughters, Laney and Lily Harris of Frisco. He is also survived by his brothers and their families, Moody, Delray, Randy, and Robert Jenkins; a special cousin Calvin Phillips, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. His granddaughters were the delights of his life and if you were ever around him, he made sure that you knew. He loved to visit with people and share his knowledge. All who knew Mr. Jenkins understood that he was a living encyclopedia of facts.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 26, at Oakland Heights Baptist Church. Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. in Rosewood Park under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank Lillie Dixon for her dedicated service and help to Mr. Jenkins.

Memorials may be made to Longview ISD Foundation, P. O. Box 3268, Longview, Texas 75606, or to the HiWay 80 Rescue Mission, 3117 West Marshall Avenue, Longview, Texas 75606.
