JAMES BURTON BRANUM JR.
Funeral services for James Burton Branum, jr. 69, of Norman, formerly of Minco, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Minco Church of Christ.
He was born Jan 22, 1919, Kopperl, Texas and died April 6, 1988 at Hillcrest Hospital at Oklahoma City. Branum moved to Minco at age five and lived there until 1986. He was a son of James B. and Lucille Lain Branum Sr.
Branum was an entrepreneur and merchant, the founder of Minco Gas Authority, the first gas authority in the state, and the founder and owner of Branum Variety Store, the oldest one-owner store in Grady County. He was a tag agent for 15 years and the owner of Alma's Wig Shop.
He was a former Kiwanis Club president and a member of the Church of Christ.
He and Roberta Edna Bryan were married Feb. 22, 1946. She preceded him in death Jan 4, 1986.
Survivors include a son, James Richard Branum of Newcastle; four daughters, Roberta Sue Graham, Sheri Kay Hill, Alma Katherine Paine, all of Norman; and Sandra Lou Quaid of Cordell; and 16 grandchildren.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery at Minco under the direction of Reynolds Funeral Home of Minco.
