Death of Capt. Abbott, died of paralysis at his residence, corner of East Front and King Streets, this city on the 19th inst., Captain Jeremiah Abbott in his eighty fifth year.
Captain Abbott was born at Hancock, Maine and moved to North Carolina about the year 1835.
He settled at Washington, N.C. where he married Miss Mary Bateman. He was engaged in the mercantile business and captain of a vessel for over thirty years sailing out of Washington for the West Indies, returning from his last voyage about the time that Roanoke Island was captured by the Federals.
Since the war he was connected with the Customs service, filling the office of Deputy Collector of Customs at Portsmouth, N.C., from which place he moved to New Bern and built his residence.
The funeral service will be held from the Centenary Methodist Church, New Street this afternoon at 4:00 o'clock.
