Civil War Veteran - Enlisted on 11 August 1862 at Coldwater, Branch County, Michigan; he was residing at Girard, Branch County prior to enlistment at 19 years of age; mustered in 5 September 1862, Company C, 19th Michigan Volunteer Infantry Regiment as a Corporal; wounded in action on 5 March 1863 during the Battle of Thompson's Station, Williamson County, Tennessee; mustered out on 13 June 1865 at Jackson, Jackson County, Michigan.

---Daniel S. Van Blarcum of Tekonsha, a former resident of this city, died Sunday afternoon about 12:30. Mr. Van Blarcum was about 60 years old and was well known throughout the county. His death resulted from a wound received in March 1863 when he was serving in the 19th Michigan Infantry. He had been entirely helpless for several years and was not even able to feed himself. His remains were brought here this afternoon and interment made in Oakridge.
