Lifelong Cutchogue resident William Madison Beebe died Sept. 6 at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport. He was 82.
He was born Jan. 5, 1926, at home on New Suffolk Lane (now Road) in Cutchogue to Theodore and Hannah (Goodale) Beebe, one member of the ninth generation of the Beebe family in Cutchogue. He attended Cutchogue Grammar School and graduated from Southold High School before attending the Farmingdale University Architectural School.

He served as a corporal during World War II from June 1944 to April 1946, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge and receiving the American Campaign, Good Conduct and WWII Victory Medals for his service.

In 1948, he established William M. Beebe Builders, a contracting and building business in Cutchogue, which built quality homes for over 45 years and continues today under new management.

He married Eugenia (Jennie) Sawicki on Jan. 19, 1985, at home in Cutchogue.

He was a member of the Cutchogue Fire Department, where he was on non-active status, the Mattituck Gun Club and Southold American Legion No. 803. He was a superintendent of the Cutchogue Cemetery Association and a member of Cutchogue United Methodist Church.

Mr. Beebe was predeceased by his son, William Jr. He is survived by his wife of 23 years; his daughter, Linda B. Warren of Manorville; stepchildren Joan Rempe and Stephen Kapustka, both of Southold, and Paul Kapustka of Cutchogue; siblings Theodore O. Beebe of Cutchogue and Marjorie B. Swiatocha of Cutchogue; grandchildren Paul M. Smith, Julia S. Platas and Dylan Kapustka; and four great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends Wednesday, Sept. 10, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. Funeral services led by Pastor Mary Helen Crump will be held Thursday, Sept. 11, at 11 a.m. at Cutchogue United Methodist Church.
