HANNIBAL - Alpha Mae Gibbs, 89, of Center, died at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at Westview Nursing Home in Center.Funeral services will be Saturday, July 6, at Grand View Funeral Chapel in Hannibal. Pastor Tom Day will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park.Visitation will be from 10 am. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.Mrs. Gibbs was born March 9, 1913, in Ralls County to Harry and Nettie Street Nichols.She was married to William P. Gibbs on Oct. 23, 1928. He preceded her in death Dec. 6, 1992.Survivors include one son, Robert D. Gibbs of Louisiana; one daughter, Vivian Doversberger of Washington, Ill.; and eight grandchildren, Jason Gibbs, Rachelle Gibbs, Richard Gafford, Virginia Everett, Cindy Ewbank, Christine Gibbs, Jim Gibbs and Kyle Dodd; and eight great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by one son, William F. Gibbs; and two sisters, Donnie Nied and Beulah Holman.For the most part, Mrs. Gibbs was a lifelong resident of the area and was a member of Union Chapel Church. Alpha Mae was a very warm, kind and considerate person. She was always busy but enjoyed sewing, gardening and cooking. All of us will remember her for the wonderful homemade rolls and fried chicken that she fixed regularly. Mostly, though, she will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all whose lives she has touched.Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or Alzheimer's Foundation.Pallbearers will be Jason Gibbs, Richard Gafford, Mike Everett, Jim Gibbs and Kyle Dodd.
