Enlisted, October 29, 1906, in Troop 6, Squadron C Cavalry, at the Bedford Avenue Armory, Brooklyn, NY. He was promoted to Sergeant, May 31, 1910, in Troop 8 and 1st Sergeant, March 24, 1913, in Troop D.

He was appointed 2nd Lieutenant, Cavalry, April 13, 1914, and 1st Lieutenant, December 29, 1916

The 1st NY Cavalry was called up for service, for the Mexican border, and he mustered in, June 28, 1916. The regiment was assigned to Camp McAllen, Texas. as part of the 6th NY Division (later to be the 27th Division). He returned to New York and was discharged from the service, February 20, 1917, Fort Jay, NY.

He was placed on the reserve list, July 11, 1917and discharged from the list December 3, 1926.
