Raymond E. Skidmore, 85, of Grafton, died at Elyria Memorial Hospital today after a three week illness.
He was born in Braxton County, W.Va., and had lived in Grafton 24 years.
Mr. Skidmore was employed at the American Viscose Corp. Parkersburg, W.Va. for 20 years as a lead pourer before retiring in 1962.
He was a member of the Upper Steer Run Missionary Baptist Church, Normantown, W.Va., where he had been an ordained deacon of the church for 50 years.
Mr. Skidmore attended the Mt Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church of Grafton.
He is survived by his wife, Nellie, to whom he was married 57 years; a daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Pauline) Hardman of Grafton; sons, Jerl of Elyria and Charles of Elyria; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Whetzel (Juaneta) Stump of Florida; and his step-mother, Rettie Skidmore of Florida.
He was preceded in death by a son, Otis, in 1982 and by five sisters, and two brothers.
Friends may call at the Blackburn-Fulton Funeral Home, Grafton, Tuesday 2-4 and
7-9 p.m.
Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, Parsons Rd., Grafton. The Rev. Charles Fisher, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
