Most of her life was spent in school. The first seven years were at Dailey Grammar with Mrs. Sally Hiers Brown as her teacher. She graduated from Morven High School in 1938; obtained a two year teaching certificate from Georgia Southwestern College in 1940; a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 1954 and a Masters of Education in Elementary Education in 1966 from what is now Georgia Southern University. She was a life member of the National Teachers Association, Georgia Teachers Association and Georgia Retired Teachers Association.
She spent 38 years teaching in Brooks, Colquitt, and Thomas County schools; the last twenty seven in first grade at Pavo.
She is survived by a son, Wilburn Lawrence Shelley, Jr.; a sister, Allie Willaford Murray; brother, Kenneth Baker; a step brother, J.W. Baker III, many nieces and nephews; great; great, great, and great, great, great, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Wilburn Shelley, Sr., her parents; brother, Lloyd Willaford; sisters, Annie Lee Willaford Rentz and Laura Willaford Rentz, step-father; Manor Baker, step brothers; Jack Baker and Iris "Red" Baker, step-sisters; Wilma Baker Dailey and Lynelle Baker Bozman.
