Cleda Leavitt Blair, 95, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2012, and sixteen hours later she was joined by her loving, eternal companion Rosemond Frell Blair, 94, who also passed away peacefully on March 21, 2012. Married for close to 77 years, the timing of their passing puts a capstone on a love story that began many years ago.
Cleda was born on October 2, 1916, and Frell on July 23, 1917, in Lewiston, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan Temple on December 18, 1935. Frell was a World War II veteran having served this great nation faithfully as part of the 140th Division of the Naval Construction Battalion, nicknamed the "Seabee's". He was stationed in the Pacific Isles as a part of that theater of the war and served in total from 1943-1946.
Upon returning home, Cleda and Frell moved to Nyssa, Oregon where they lived in the home Dad/Grandpa built for 40 years as he worked for Amalgamated Sugar Company as Master Mechanic.
As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, both held numerous callings throughout their lives. Frell was a Bishop of the Nyssa 1st Ward for 8 years and Cleda was in the Stake Young Women's Presidency for many years as well. They served for 9 years in the Boise Temple in various capacities.
After retiring in 1980, they split their time between Nyssa and Mesa, Arizona where they met many wonderful friends and acquaintances. Their longevity outlived several sets of retired friends and when Mom/Grandma finds out that her true age was made public, there is going to be some repercussions in the next life.
The last few years of their lives were spent in Idaho Falls, Idaho to be near family and loved ones. Cleda and Frell are survived by their son and daughter-in-law, Boyd and Marilyn Blair, their daughter, Sharon Cavanagh, 12 grandchildren, and 32 great grandchildren. A posterity that is so grateful of what they started these many years ago.
Their legacy of faith, their legacy of love and commitment to each other and their family will be the things remembered most about these majestic people. We miss you Mom and Dad, Grandma and Grandpa, but we'll see you again.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at the York LDS Ward (1291 West 6500 South). A public viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.. A family burial service will be held Wednesday, March 28, at 11 a.m. in Lewiston, Utah, where they will be interred at the Lewiston Cemetery.
