Barbara Luviene (Baughman) Waggener, 89, a long-time resident of Amboy, Washington passed away peacefully on March 6, 2012 in Battle Ground, Washington.

She was born to Chester and Bertha Baughman on Jan 20, 1923 in Portland, Oregon. Barbara attended Beaverton High School in Beaverton, Oregon. She married William Theodore (Rocky) Stone and they had three children Robin, Michael and Roxanna. She later married Arthur Lee Waggener and they raised one son, Mark.

When our great country called for help she went to work in the shipyards during World War II. In the 60's she worked at the NCO and Officer's Clubs at the Portland Air Force Base, OR. She was a firm believer in education and fulfilled a life-long goal after moving to Amboy in the early 70's, she graduated from Clark College and Evergreen State College and later went to work for the Forest Service.

Barbara was passionate about volunteering and genealogy "That's my love" you would often hear her say. Her love for genealogy found her loading up her brown van and setting off alone on a cross country trip. She was in her 60's. She traveled to Pennsylvania and other places in the east to research her family history. Her community service included years of teaching Girl Scouts and Girl Scout leaders and while living in Panama City, Florida in1968 she led a troop of 44 teenagers, the first-ever integrated group. She tutored students at Amboy Middle School and Clark College. She put forth tireless efforts on behalf of the Amboy Territorial Days Association and she was the founder of the annual Mt Tum Tum Native American Encampment in Amboy, Washington. She volunteered for the Red Cross and at age 24 she was chairman of a Red Cross fundraising campaign for a county in Oregon and collected more money than was collected during World War II. Barbara also served as Noble Grand of the Rebecca Lodge. Her memberships included Clark College Alumni, Thrivent For Lutherans and Rebecca Lodge.

She loved history and wanted to preserve the history of North Clark County. Because of this, Barbara became a financier and a leader in bringing the North Clark County Historical Museum in Amboy from concept to reality. Barbara was one of two Citizens of the Year in Amboy in 2002.

Illness in her later years prevented her to accomplish more, but everyone can attest to Barbara's spunk. She put her heart in everything she set out to do.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester Oscar Baughman and Bertha L. Danielson Baughman Eddy; sister, Maxine Baughman Wood Ahlstrom; sister, Audrey Baughman Miller Phillips; husband, Arthur Lee Waggener; son, Mark Ellis Waggener; daughter, Robin Stone Millage and stepdaughter, Wanda Stone Thomas.
