John E. Anthony, 85 of 810 Terrace Ave. Apollo, died yesterday, Dec. 17, 1972, at 2:55 p.m. in Georgian Manor Nursing Home in Brackenridge.
He was born 2 March 1887, in Jefferson County to Rinard and Mary Confer Anthony.
Mr. Anthony was a member of United Presbyterian church in Apollo. He was a former coal miner, having been retired by Marco Coal Co. in 1943. He was also a member of United Mine workers of America.
His wife, Mrs. Mary Akins Anthony died in 1960.
Mr. Anthony is survived by four sons: Roy E. of Apollo; Floyd M. of Gosser Hill, Allegheny Twp., R. Merle of Vandergrift and Russell I. of Apollo; 18 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, a brother Earl R. of Aurora, Ohio, and a sister, Mrs. Minta Kerr of Reynoldsville.
A son Elmer died in 1961.
Friends will be received in the Bodenhorn and Shaffer Funeral Home, 310 S. Second St., Apollo, from 7 to 9 p.m. today, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow and from 10 a.m. Saturday (30 Dec. 1972) until a funeral service at 1 p.m. in the funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Stanley Boughton, his pastor. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Apollo.
