Ernest Estevan Lucero was born May 12, 1937, in Los Lentes, N.M., the son of Aurora Garcia Lucero and Thomas Lucero. Throughout his lifetime, he worked hard in construction as a master block mason, assisting in the construction of many homes throughout the Gila Valley. Recently, Ernest had enjoyed his work with the Safford School District as a night custodian. Ernest was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, United States Air Force Korean veteran and friend.

Ernest entered into rest Wednesday morning, March 21, 2012, at his residence, following a valiant, three-year fight with throat cancer, with his loving family at his bedside.

Ernest leaves to mourn: his daughters, Bernice Gutierrez (Frank) and Priscilla Jarois; two sons, Ernest Lucero Jr. and Ted Lucero (Debi); 10 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Lucero will be conducted Monday, March 26, 2012, at 2 p.m., at Vining Funeral Home's Chapel of the Valley by Pastor Ken Roshon. Concluding services with military honors conferred by the Gila Valley Veterans Honor Guard and the Davis Monthan United States Air Force Honor Detail will follow in the Safford Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at the Vining Funeral Home.
