Son of George T & Mary E (Arnold) Brown.

Brother of Mary Olive, Annie Laura (1870-1895), Mercy Lena, Hattie Mabel (1875-), Jennie Adeline (1877-1895) & Myra Frances (1881-).

Edwin married Hortense Frances Himes on November 29th, 1888 in Exeter, RI.

Edwin became sick with Consumption (now called Tuberculosis). This was most likely the same disease which claimed his mother Mary on December 8th, 1883, his older sister Mary O on June 6th, 1884 & his younger sister Mercy on January 17th, 1892.
Returning from a trip to Colorado's mineral springs with his wife Hortense, he suffered a relapse.
His father George became desperate to save his only son's life. He, along with others in Exeter fell victim to "vampire hysteria" when they entered Chestnut Hill Cemetery on March 17th, 1892 & exhumed the bodies of Mary E, Mary Olive & Mercy Lena Brown. Allegedly, both Mary's showed signs of normal decompostion, but Mercy was another story.
She was reported to look "too well preserved". Her hair & nails had grown, her cheeks still had a rosy color & her body was observed to be not in the position she was buried in. Upon removing the heart, Dr Harold Metcalf discovered "fresh blood". A fire was started on a rock right there in the graveyard & Mercy's extracted organ was burned. The ashes were then fed to Edwin in a medicinal mixture which ultimately did NOT save his life.
Edwin passed away on May 2nd, 1892 at age 24.
