Private, Company I, 7th US Cavalry. Killed in action during Custer's Last Stand by Sioux and Cheyenne Indians at the Battle of the Little Big Horn, along with most of the 7th Cavalry.

He enlisted on July 17, 1866, in Company H, 4th US Cavalry, and on June 28, 1875, he reenlisted into the 7th Cavalry in Chicago, Illinois, giving his previous occupation as Saddler. He had blue eyes, light hair, a ruddy complexion and was 5 feet, 7 inches tall. He was killed on Last Stand Hill, along with all of the soldiers of Custer's Column, and was initially buried where he fell. In 1878, the bodies of the soldiers were removed from their field burials and reinterred in a mass grave at the top of Last Stand Hill, where his body remains today. He was married, and his widow received a pension of $12 per month until her death on June 5, 1903. She is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Adrian, Michigan.
