Milly was born on May 25, 1921 in Danvers, Illinois to Orvil and Mary Hargitt Martin. She married Shelby B. Smith on May 17, 1942 in Washington. Shelby died on October 28, 1998 in Eureka. Milly was also preceded in death by one son, Stanley B. Smith who died on March 10, 1968 in Viet Nam and three brothers and one sister.
Among those surviving is one son, Steven (Rita) Smith of North Port, Florida; one sister, Mae "Babe" (Loy) Gilliam of Sun City, Arizona; one brother, Clyde (Ethelene) Martin of Mackinaw; three grandchildren, Margo (John) Tony of Peoria, Steve Smith of Fredrickburg, VA and Cherie Smith of Creve Coeur and four great grandchildren.
Prior to her retirement, Milly was a custodian for Washington Community High School.
Milly was a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church in Washington, a 50 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 100 and a Gold Star Mother. She also was an avid golfer and loved socializing with people.
Funeral services for Milly will be on Friday, March 16, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Mason-White Funeral Home with Reverend Dan Doty officiating.
Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery.
