Vietnam War Soldier. He was from North 3rd Street in Feltonville and attended Saint Henry School. He graduated from Olney High School in June of 1965; he was drafted into the Army in November. Schoenig was a helicopter crew chief in Vietnam. Writing home after one battle, he described combat: "It makes you sick in the stomach, and so mad when they carry back dead GIs." The specialist fourth class, assigned to the 119th Aviation Company was killed on November 11, 1966, in a helicopter crash during fighting near Pleiku. He died 13 days before celebrating his 21st birthday. Schoenig was survived by his mother and three brothers. His body was never recovered.
