Theophilis Fishback was the son of John M Fishback and Elizabeth Button. Born in Barren County, Kentucky, he and his family moved to Pike County, Missouri, prior to 1850. The Fishback name was originally spelled Fischbach, and early members of this family were among the original settlers of the Germana Colony in Virginia. About 1872 Theophilis Fishback married Josephine Dutton. They were parents of four children: Jesse Marshall, Elizabeth, Etta and Clara. The exact year of his death has not been established by this writer, but records would indicate that he died between September 1918 and the time the census was taken in 1920. Based on the birth place of their oldest child, Jesse, Theophilis and his family migrated to California before 1874. His brother, Charles Martin Fishback married Colista Dutton, Josephine's sister, and they also migrated to California about the same time. Charles and Colista and other members of their family are buried in Capay Cemetery, Esparto, Yolo County, California.
