Mrs. Melva H. Miller Vatick, age 87, widow of the late Joseph N. Miller, of North Charleston, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at a local hospital.

Friends and family of Mrs. Miller-Vatick are invited to attend her funeral service on Friday, March 28, 2008 at 11:00 am at the CAROLINA MEMORIAL PARK MAUSOLEUM, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC. Visitation will be this evening, Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 pm.

Mrs. Melva Howard Miller Vatcik was born on March 3, 1921 in Andrews, SC to the late Mr. Holland Howard and the late Mrs. Myrtle Locklear Howard.

She retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard after 24 years of employment as a Secretary to the Commander and as a Supervisor.

She was a member of The First Baptist Church of Goose Creek and was a member of the Hanahan Lodge of the Eastern Star.

She enjoyed many hobbies and had many friends. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Betty Jo Perry, and her husband L. Frank, of Summerville; a sister, Molly Daubs of Hanahan; one brother, Jack Howard of Alabama; three grandchildren, Danny Perry of Charleston, Amanda Davis of Charleston and Teresa Mimms, and her husband Jeff, of Charleston; six great-grandchildren, Nikki Perry of Hanahan, Dylan Perry of Charleston, Taylor Davis of Charleston, Rick Davis of Charleston, Devon Bennan of Charleston and William DeLoach; and devoted companion, Ray White. Mrs. Miller-Vatick was preceded in death by her husband, the late Joseph N. Miller and her daughter, the late Myrtle Jane Taylor.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Mrs. Melva H. Miller Vatick's honor to The American Cancer Society, 5900 Core Road, Charleston, SC 29406.
