He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on October 6, 1942 in Manchester, New Hampshire. He had previously served in the New Hampshire National Guard. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the manufacture of boots and shoes and also as Married.
Walter was "Killed In Action", along with 19 other soldiers, when the C-47 he was on crashed due to enemy fire at 1:14 a.m. during the invasion of France during the war.
He was awarded the Purple Heart.
