Services will be private for Dorothy DeGrush Philo, 68, of Chappaqua, Westchester County, formerly of Glens Falls, who died Friday at her home of ovarian cancer.
Mrs. Philo was born in Warrensburg, Warren County. Her family moved to Glens Falls in 1939 where she graduated from Glens Falls High School in 1943.
She was an administrative assistant to the chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Reader's Digest before her retirement.
In 1948, Mrs. Philo was selected by a committee of local leaders to be one of the first eight individuals from New York state to participate in a new Community Ambassador program, sponsored by the Experiment in International Living, now World Learning Inc. The funds were raised by the community and she was community ambassador to Stockholm during the summer of 1948. She moved to Chappaqua in 1969. Mrs. Philo was a member of the United Methodist Church of Pleasantville.
Survivors include her husband, Clifford H. Philo; a daughter, Virginia A. Philo of Clifton Park; and a son, John M. Philo of Westport, Conn. Arrangements are under the direction of Beecher Funeral Home in Pleasantville.
