Mariah Melinda Capps, born on January 16, 1854, in Lincoln, Missouri, was the daughter of David Capps and Sarah Goodwin. In 1860, at the age of 7, she lived in Prairie, Lincoln, Missouri.

At 14, Mariah married Daniel Gathan Hisey, who was 19 years old and was born on November 30, 1849, in Missouri. They were married in 1869. Their marriage resulted in six children: Kim A Hisey (1876–1969), Effie Mildred Hisey (1880–1974), Fredrick Joseph Schmithingy Hisey (1881–1958), Daniel Wesley Hisey (1883–1958), Almos H Hisey (1886–1956), and Mary Mertle Adaliad Hisey (1891–1927).

In 1870, Mariah, then 19, was keeping house in Prairie, Lincoln, Missouri. By 1900, she lived with her husband, Daniel G Hisey, in Justice Precinct 4, Haskell, Texas. In 1910, she continued to reside in Justice Precinct 3, Haskell, Texas, with her husband.

By 1930, Mariah, now a widow, was the head of her household at 507 Carroll Ave., Spur, Dickens, Texas.

Mariah passed away on November 9, 1934, in Dickens at 80. She was buried in Spur Cemetery, Spur, Dickens County, Texas.
