Jessie Lee Barkdull, 80, of Channelview, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2012, at East Houston Regional Hospital. She was born September 1, 1931, in Dry Prong, Louisiana, to John A. Gilcrease and Audie Cochran Gilcrease. Mrs. Barkdull was a homemaker who was known for her sense of humor, for being a wonderful cook, particularly her tomato gravy and biscuits, and a song writer and recording artist. She had a special love for all birds and her backyard was a sanctuary for all varieties.

Preceded in death by her parents, John A. and Audie Gilcrease; daughter, Wilma Jo Breeland; grandson, Tyler Thomas; three sisters, Jewel Glenn, Jocie Paige and Jonnie Stone; and a brother, Jackie Ray Gilcrease; Mrs. Barkdull is survived by her loving husband, James Barkdull; sons, James W. Barkdull, Jr. and wife, Dale, and Jay Barkdull and wife, Jennifer, and Michael Barkdull of Tarkington; daughters, Jana Jackson and husband, Darrell, of Channelview, and Audrea Harris, and husband Eric, of Dayton; brothers, J. B. Gilcrease and Junior Gilcrease; sisters, Joy Stone and Jerrie Rose Stiller; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren; and many other friends and family members who loved her. She will be remembered as a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home. A Celebration of Mrs. Barkdull's Life will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, in the Chapel of Crespo & Jirrels. A graveside service at 5 p.m. will be held in Lecompte, Louisiana, at Paul Cemetery.
