Martha's father, Charles, was the son of Nathan and Ann [Richert] Howell, who moved from PA to Mason Co, IL, in 1837. Nathan was born in PA, Ann near Mt. Bethel, NJ. Charles was a wheelwright, chair maker, cabinet maker, sleigh and carriage manufacturer, and builder. He built a blacksmith shop, depot and a 356' long bridge for the railroad in LA. In IL he built a gristmill and then engaged in the mercantile business. He and his wife had 10 children.
Martha & Stephen Holly Hodge were married 22 Mar 1859 in Mason County, Illinois.
