Mrs. Mary Ruth Bagwell Cunningham, 95, of 620 East Howell Street, Hartwell, died Saturday, March 17 at Hartwell Health Care Center.
Born on March 11, 1917 in the Goldmine Community of Hart County GA, she was the daughter of the late James Callie Bagwell and Bertie Pruitt Bagwell. Mrs. Cunningham worked for Hartwell Garment Company, Miss Melba's Kindergarten and retired from the Hart County School System, where she was a paraprofessional at Eagle Grove and Airline Elementary Schools. After retiring, she worked as a Wal-Mart greeter until she retired the second time at age 80. Mrs. Cunningham was a member of the Hartwell First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda C. Chipman of Buford GA; her son, Luther M. Cunningham III of Hartwell; her grandson, Luther M. "Marty" Cunningham IV and his wife Kim of Kennesaw GA; four grandsons, Thomas Martin Cunningham of Cabot AR, Erik Perez, Aleks Perez and Markus Perez all of Kennesaw GA and a daughter-in-law, Margaret Bloomberg of Hartwell also survive.
Mrs. Cunningham was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, L. M. Cunningham Jr.; her son-in-law, Alan D. Chipman; seven brothers, J.C. Bagwell, Thomas Bagwell, Glenn Bagwell, Frank Bagwell, Mac Bagwell, Ralph Bagwell and Hoyt Bagwell and two sisters, Merle B. Snelling and Ina E. Bagwell.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Dr. R. Allen Stewart and Rev. Eddie Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell where the family will receive friends from 1:30-3:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. The family is at the home. Flowers optional, memorials may be made to the Hartwell First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 200 East Howell Street, Hartwell, GA 30643.
