CHESAPEAKE - Robert Arnold "Bob" Truitt, 77, of the 1000 block of Shoals Creek Trail, went to be with the Lord Sept. 27, 2009, in Chesapeake. A native of Madison, N.C., he was the son of the late Arnold L. and Bertha Grogan Truitt.
He was the retired director of Tidewater Detention Home, now Chesapeake Juvenile Services, and a member and elder of Kempsville Presbyterian Church and its Faithful Men's Choir. Music was a great part of Bob's life and he served as music director in several area churches for many years. He was past president of the Virginia Juvenile Officers Association and a past editor of its newspaper, The Advocate. For many years he was the voice of the Great Bridge Wildcats football team.
He is survived by his wife, Frances H. Truitt; two daughters, Terri Truitt White and Amy Truitt Hurr and her husband John; a son, Jeffrey Robert Truitt, all of Chesapeake; and four grandchildren, Colin, Corey, Trent and Elizabeth.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. at Kempsville Presbyterian Church with Pastor Nate Atwood officiating. Burial will be private in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
